Rossini: Petite Messe Solennelle
and other music
Aberystwyth Choral Society with Sinfonia Cambrensis
Conductor – David Russell Hulme
Rossini composed his mass over three decades after his final opera. 'A sin of my old age,' he called this unexpected product of his twilight years. Time, though, had not dulled his musical brilliance - nor his wit. Despite its title, the Petite Messe Solennelle is neither petite nor solemn! It is a radiant, thrilling piece, showcasing great choral writing and Rossini's inimitable operatic flair.
Aberystwyth Choral Society is Aberystwyth’s largest choir, now including young choristers from Aberystwyth University. They are the only ones hereabouts presenting full-scale performances of the world’s great choral music – and that’s what makes them different.
The soloists are always top professional artists; their superb orchestra brings together professional musicians from near and far. The result is an experience like no other.
